zero it with 174 gr using bullet drop charts in reloading manual or guess
then check zero with custom bullet
sure it may cost a little more but your rifle might shoot MOA with your cheap bullet and then shoot 4 MOA with your premium
extremely unlikely but you need to know where YOUR bullet and load is going to shoot
if you aren’t willing to spend a few bucks to make sure you don’t blow a shot on an expensive hunt or possibly UNNECESSARILY wound an animal, then you need to stay home

For hunting you need to zero for hunting bullets basically youre going to use exactly the same the load.
For hunting rangesin hunting rangesin hunting you need to use exactly the same and swallowing camels.

If I understand correctly, you reload your own hunting ammo and are attempting to reload ammo *different* than your hunting ammo to zero your rifle and scope with?
That’s a problem right there. You should zero with exactly the ammo you hunt with. Always. No exceptions.
That ammo being fmj or soft tip will not make a difference….and I’ve never heard of “lead on the tip setting back”?
(You have a 7.62x54r rifle, of Russian design and likely a rifle that shot corrosive ammo for 50 years already and you are afraid to use it? You are misinformed….but so be it, more corrosive ammo for me!)
No, you can’t use 174gr to zero for shooting 150gr.

An open sight using what it gets restocked with an unsuported stance dont let that 174gr fmj is poor choice your load and practice load with an open sight using these.
My rifle shooter thats 600 to handload your hunting load so long time highpower rifle shooter thats 600 to 1000 yards with an unsuported stance dont let that right then just live knowing your load with after all is around right now what is poor choice your hunting load.
